4 Dealbreakers to Think About When Purchasing an SUV

Buying a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is a totally different process from buying a car.  Ordinary vehicles are easy to choose because they’re usually driven for basic reasons. SUVs on the other hand can serve a variety of functions, in a wide range of environments.  This Makes it easier to jump to conclusions when window-shopping for an SUV.

SUVs Have Intricate Qualities:

Automotive Expert Taylor Marsden suggests that, “The Sports Utility Vehicle (better known as the SUV) has been a common choice amongst off-roaders and those lugging lots of cargo for decades. But these days, you can typically find huge SUVs parked in soccer-mom driveways everywhere. The SUV offers a ton of great features created to suit a variety of needs.” Here are a few quick tips on how to pick a good SUV:

1.    Think About What You’ll be Transporting:

Arguably the most important factor to consider when window-shopping for SUVs is cargo.  Are you buying it so that you can drive your family around in a spacious mode of transport?  Or are you buying it for use as a commercial vehicle?  Not all SUVs are cut out to be family cars. And not all family-oriented SUVs can be used in commercial ways.

2.    Research the Drivetrain Configuration:

SUVs either come with all-wheel-drive (AWD), front wheel drive (FWD), rear wheel drive (RWD), or 4WD (4-wheel drive).  And each of these configurations has an impact on performance.  Be careful not to settle for a drivetrain which is too frail for intended routine-use.

3.    Economize on Gas-Mileage:

SUVs are notorious for one extravagance. Gas-guzzling. Because SUVs are naturally heavier than small cars, they burn a lot of fuel during acceleration. Even if it’s impossible to find a perfectly fuel-efficient SUV, be careful not to purchase a model that’s guaranteed to overextend your budget.

4.    Invest in Comfort:

Some SUVs are designed to be luxury vehicles. While some SUVs are designed for tough terrain and harsh driving. Before falling in love with a particular brand of vehicle, examine whether comfort or utility should take precedence in your selection.

People often buy SUVs because they’re glamorous vehicles. They look powerful, and promise prestige to anyone who occupies the driver’s seat. All this is well and good, but SUVs are also designed to provide extraordinary utility.  If you’re going to invest time and money into purchasing an SUV, be intentional about doing good research.
